The eNotes Blog How to Use Hyphens, En Dashes, and EmDashes

Step by step instructions to Use Hyphens, En Dashes, and EmDashes This is part twoâ in our unique language structure arrangement. It turns out the little even lines you’ve been staying between words when you weren’t sure what kind of accentuation ought to go there are really various lengths on purpose. Go figure. Which of the accompanying should fill the clear? 1. The certain understudy starts the well_proofed accentuation test with no dread. 2. This cunningly_written artful culmination represents no danger to the shrewd understudy. 3. The understudy returns obliterating right_ and left_handed punctuational volleys. 4. She thinks the score is 3_0 and is practically certain she’s winning_but right? 5. The 21st_century_punctuation_loving understudy goes to the appropriate responses with anxiety. Answers 1. a. 2. d 3. b 4. c 5. c Hyphens (- ) To smoosh or not to smoosh? Since hyphens (the briefest of the littleâ horizontal lines) are utilized fundamentally in compound terms, you likely generally experience them when you’re attempting to make sense of when at least two words are working as single word. You attempted the word reference, however it wasn’t there. What now? Phrasal descriptive words (likewise called compound modifiers) are words that cooperate to alter things. A few models are â€Å"Dumbledore-scented candle† (genuine article), â€Å"equitably circulated chocolates† (not genuine article), and â€Å"high-paying occupations for English majors† (jury’s still out). To make sense of whether to hyphenate, start by asking yourself these inquiries: On the off chance that I don’t hyphenate, would anybody be able to decipher the expression in a manner I don’t expect? For instance, a â€Å"snuggly purple porcupine† is a porcupine that is both snuggly and purple (yes embrace); a â€Å"snuggly-purple porcupine† is a purple porcupine whose shading looks delicate (no embrace). The two developments are okay syntactically, and which one you utilize just relies upon what you mean. Does my phrasal modifier come after an action word? In the event that indeed, at that point ordinarily you don’t hyphenate. For instance, you could compose â€Å"My knowledgeable porcupine is well educated.† You would have neither rhyme nor reason, yet you could breathe easy in light of your syntactic greatness. Does my phrasal descriptor end in â€Å"ly†? Fantastic. That makes it simple. No hyphens for you. You may remark on â€Å"this writer’s stunningly visit references to porcupines† with linguistic exemption. What number of words are in my phrasal modifier? More than two? Generally you can apply the standards above to get developments like â€Å"seventeenth-century purple-porcupine artwork† and â€Å"chocolate-dumbledore-flame eating English majors.† Once in some time, in any case, it changes the guidelines for clarity’s purpose, as in â€Å"On the opposite, I discover this writer’s not really shockingly visit porcupine references charming.† Exclusions can likewise be dealt with hyphens when you feel senseless making statements like â€Å"right-gave and left-gave porcupines.† To dispose of any absurdity, you may compose â€Å"right-and left-gave porcupines,† utilizing the scramble to flag the oversight. Prefixes are repulsive things for hyphens. I wish I could save you, yet I can’t. You basically simply need to find them, either in your trusty word reference or, bombing that, your style control. En runs (â€) An en run is a scramble the length of two hyphens, and has basically nothing to do with hyphens (I share your help). It is utilized as follows: among scores and number and date reaches to mean â€Å"to† or â€Å"through,† as in â€Å"The body of a porcupine is 2â€3 feet in length,† or â€Å"My educator has requested that I read pages 1â€1,000,000 tonight,† or â€Å"I won the en run challenge 46â€3.† without any spaces on either side of it. just when not went before by the word â€Å"from†; deplorably you need to illuminate â€Å"I was captivated by porcupines from 12 to 22.† just when you choose to compose your numbers as numerals; in the event that you illuminate them, there are no runs for you in â€Å"I was captivated by porcupines from twelve to twenty-two.† for the situation ofâ directions, where you need to discuss your â€Å"Seattleâ€Chicago flight† (the en run again implies â€Å"to†). There is one more situation where you can utilize the en run, and it’s extremely bizarre. On the off chance that you need to depict a split between the conservative and the left-wing porcupine political groups, it is befuddling to run everything along with hyphens since two distinctâ hyphenated thoughts are being joined: â€Å"right-wing-left-wing polarization.† Instead, you stick an en run between your two hyphenated terms, this way: â€Å"right-wingâ€left-wing polarization.† Even if the second term isn’t hyphenated yet at the same time works as a unit, you would utilize an en run, as inâ postâ€porcupineâ takeover. The en run tells your perusers to take the words porcupine and takeover together and comprehend you are alluding to the period after the rat insurgency. Trade the en run for a hyphen and youre unexpectedly discussing the takeover that happened post-porcupine-that is, after all the porcupines died. It is franticness and a degree of ni t-pickery that you may plan to only from time to time experience. Em runs (- ) At long last, we’ve showed up at the one you really can sprinkle all through your composing when you’re not certain what sort of accentuation to utilize. All things considered, kind of. Em dashesâ are what might be compared to three hyphens long andâ can supplant commas, enclosures, and colons. For what reason would you make the trade? Basically on the grounds that you feel like it, or are being invaded by your other accentuation. You’re likewise allowed to utilize them to demonstrate a break in thought or an interference. Make the most of your uncommon language opportunity as in the accompanying models: An interference: The hospitalized essayist reflected, â€Å"Hugging the porcupine appeared to be a smart thought at that point, yet † â€Å"No, it didn’t,† the porcupine-hugger’s companion interposed. Supplanting a colon: I’m going to change the subject now to something else snakes. Supplanting enclosures: Snakes are not as pleasant as porcupines-however they are more pleasant than bugs and I suspected my perusers may be becoming weary of porcupines. A break in thought: Your perusers aren’t becoming weary of porcupines-they’re becoming weary of runs. Supplanting a comma: You might be correct so I’ll top it here.

Maine, Episode I Hey Joe

Maine, Episode I Hey Joe First of all, friends dont let friends do 5.12 on video. Especially not while friends are on vacation in Maine and only get the chance to check the blog server two or three times a day instead of their usual six hundred. However, sometimes other friends like Joe 08 let friends come up to their houses for a weekend. Joe lives in Portland, which is Maines business, financial and retail capital and the largest city in the state, as well as a fantastic place to spend a weekend. So, I ended up taking sometime out of my incredibly busy schedule to hang out with Joe and appreciate the harmonious blend of cityscapes and seascapes in the metropolitan hub of Maines South Coast region. I was in Maine for three days, so I thought I could split my experiences across three entrieskind of like The Mummy trilogy. Sorry, I thought of The Mummy because they played what I assume to be Be Cool on the bus ride up and I saw a brief where The Rock (aka The Scorpion King) uh, did something. I dont know, I kind of passed out with A Prayer For Owen Meany open to page 89 in my lap, and then I briefly woke up when the bus driver told us that he couldnt get the movie back on and he was just going to drive to Portland. So, I dont know what prompted that, but we ended up getting to the city about 40 minutes late. Its kind of disconcerting to wake up on a bus in Maine realize that your stop was 20 minutes ago, but I was able to calm myself down with a discerning eye for road signs (I love Ambuh). But it didnt matter too much in the grand scheme of things, because I was paranoid and got to the bus station an hour early and got on the magic 5:15 bus that doesnt really exist according to the schedule. So actually, I was 20 minutes early. Except that Joe had already been waiting for 40 minutes. But I never believed in linear time anyway. Since my life is a lot like this anyway, it was raining when I got to Maine, but I nevertheless decided that it would be a great idea to play ultimate frisbee at Joes high school. Every single person in Maine is apparently much better than I am at ultimate frisbee, but luckily the 20 people playing had no idea who I was or what team I was on. So, my primary weapon in the game was stealth and I usually just stood there unguarded until the thrower decided to cut his losses and chuck it randomly at my head. I did catch the game-winning, or rather game-ending point, but everyone was so wet and muddy that, to me, when it ended it seemed like everyone was a winner. I also took a fantastic fall into a huge mud puddle and completely ruined, in my usual spectacular fashion, one of the two non-pink pairs of pants that I had brought up for the weekend. From there we went back to Joes house with his friends Liz and Manya, who dont go to MIT and thus dont get class numbers according to the MIT blog style guide. We cooked dinner, played rummy, and pondered whether eating frozen cookie mix would be more or less healthy than eating sugar and butter mixed together in equal proportions. What do YOU think? We also found out that nobody likes orange or yellow Starburst the best, which Ive kind of suspected all my life. We read about when its best to renovate a house and when its best to raze it. We discovered a lot about home repairs, but discovered even more about ourselves. Then Liz and Manya went home and Joe and I checked the weather forecast for tomorrow, finding that winds and a thunderstorm had spontaneously turned into intermittent rain and 84 degree weatheralmost perfect for a hike the next day. Optimistic, we headed off to bed for five hours. Sorry, I gotta get some sleep if Im gonna get my alchemy on in UROP tomorrow. Maybe Ill get some time to revise this on my lunch break, but its more important that I spew it all out like turkey offal from a plant in Carthage, MO tonight before I can refine it into pure oil and carbon black tomorrow. Photographic evidence of the trip is forthcoming.

The Grapes Of Wrath Summer Reading Assignment - 1894 Words

Sarah Currinder Honors US Studies Ms. Moore The Grapes of Wrath Summer Reading Assignment 1. The geographical setting of The Grapes of Wrath begins in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. The setting changes throughout the novel including Oklahoma, Route 66, Bakersfield, Hooverville, Weedpatch and Tulare. The setting changes because the migrant farmers are always on the move and looking for work. The time period of The Grapes of Wrath is set in the midst of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. The farmers experience drought, causing their crops to be ruined. In June, rain clouds appear, but the clouds disappear, leaving strong winds that lead to blankets of dust covering the ground. â€Å"It settled on the corn, piled up on the tops of the fence posts, piled up†¦show more content†¦There is a committee of elected leaders who run the camp at Weedpatch. The political context of this novel is the conflict between the two classes. There is a divide between the migrant farmers and the wealthy businessmen. Throughout the book, wealthy businessmen push the farmers off their land and cause the farmers to migrate west. Some of the historical points made by Steinbeck were, â€Å"Once California belonged to Mexico and its land to Mexicans† (Steinbeck 231). â€Å"They imported slaves, although they did not call them slaves: Chinese, Japanese, Mexicans, Filipinos† (Steinbeck 232). Farming became a very large and popular industry and the farmers needed more help with their own crops. Cultural attitudes changed drastically. The farmers fear the banks/companies and think they are monsters. The tractor was a new machine the farmers had never seen before, it was very scary to them. It can cut a dozen farms at a time and it is much easier, more proficient, faster to plow the crops and only one person is needed to drive the tractor. A Definition and Introduction to the Keiretsu System

In Japanese, the word keiretsu can be  translated to mean group or system, but its relevance in economics far surpasses this seemingly simple translation. It has also been literally translated to mean headless combine, which highlights the keiretsu systems history and relationship to previous Japanese systems like that of the zaibatsu. In Japan and now throughout the field of economics, the word  keiretsu refers to a specific type of business partnership, alliance, or extended enterprise. In other words, a keiretsu is an informal business group. A keiretsu has generally been defined in practice as a  conglomeration of businesses associated with cross-shareholdings which are  formed around their own trading companies or large banks. But  equity ownership is not a prerequisite for keiretsu formation. In fact, a keiretsu can also be a business network of comprised of manufacturers, supply chain partners, distributors, and even financiers, who are all financially independent but who work very closely together to support and ensure mutual success. Two Types of Keiretsu There are essentially two types of keiretsus, which have been  described in English as horizontal and vertical keiretsus. A horizontal keiretsu, also known as a financial keiretsu, is characterized by the cross-shareholding relationships formed between firms which are centered around a major bank. The bank will provide these companies with a variety of financial services. A vertical keiretsu, on the other hand, is known as a jump-style keiretsu or an industrial keiretsu. Vertical keiretsus tie together in partnership the suppliers, manufacturers, and distributor of an industry. Why Form a Keiretsu? A keiretsu may provide  a manufacturer the ability to form stable, long-term business partnerships which ultimately permit the manufacturer to remain lean and efficient while focusing mainly on its core business. The formation of this type of partnership is a practice that permits a large keiretsu the capability to control a majority, if not all, steps in the economic chain in their industry or business sector. Another aim of keiretsu systems is the formation of powerful corporate structure across related businesses. When member firms of a keiretsu are associated through cross-shareholdings, which is to say that they own small portions of equity in each others businesses, they remain somewhat insulated from market fluctuations, volatility, and even business takeover attempts. With the stability provided by the keiretsu system, firms can focus on efficiency, innovation, and long-term projects. History of Keiretsu System in Japan In Japan, the keiretsu system specifically refers to the framework of business relationships that arose in post-World War II Japan after the fall of the family-owned vertical monopolies that controlled much of the economy known as zaibatsu. The keiretsu system joined Japans big banks and big firms when related companies organized around a big bank (like Mitsui, Mitsubishi, and Sumitomo) and took ownership of equity in one another and in the bank. As a result, those related companies did consistent business with one another. While the keiretsu system has had the virtue of maintaining long-term business relationships and stability in suppliers and customers in Japan, there are still critics. For instance, some argue that the keiretsu system has the disadvantage of reacting slowly to outside events since the players are partly protected from the external market. Biography of Ernest Hemingway Essay - 3737 Words

Biography of Ernest Hemingway Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter. You will meet them doing various things with resolve, but their interest rarely holds because after the other thing ordinary life is as flat as the taste of wine when the taste buds have been burned off your tongue. (On the Blue Water in Esquire, April 1936) A legendary novelist, short-story writer and essayist Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899, in the village of Oak Park, Illinois, close to the prairies and woods west of Chicago. His mother Grace Hall had an operatic career before marrying Dr. Clarence Edmonds†¦show more content†¦After Hemingways depression he was sent to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. There he received electroshock therapy that impaired his memory and stripped from him the concentration to write. Hemingway also lost the ability to do other things he so loved like fish and hunt. So perhaps he killed himself because Ernest Hemingway could no longer be Ernest Hemingway. 2. Hemingway’s works Ernest Hemingway started his career as a writer in a newspaper office in Kansas City at the age of seventeen. Here he learned to get to the heart of a story with direct, simple sentences. After the United States entered the First World War, he joined a volunteer ambulance unit in the Italian army. Here he was wounded near the Italian/Austrian front. Hospitalized, he fell in love with his nurse, who later called off their relationship. After his return to the United States, he became a reporter for Canadian and American newspapers and was soon sent back to Europe to cover such events as the Greek Revolution. During the twenties, Hemingway became a member of the group of expatriate Americans in Paris, which he described in his first important work ‘The Sun Also Rises’ (1926). After the World War I, Hemingway lived in Chicago. There, he met Sherwood Andersen and married Hadley Richardson in 1921. It also applies to loans over Rs. 1.5 Crs which are determined an interest rate ranging between 9.50% - 9.60%. In respect to Tata and other related industry in India, customer inflation is likely to continue hence, create Monetary Policy that eases interest rates for customers (Cormier, 2005). As growth is expected from the evident interest rates, 50 bps rate is set to be provided in the current financial year. Therefore, the interest rates will be lowered gradually. Talga and Tata Steel, paint and coating market spends more than 40 million tons of raw materials per year while focusing on the use of 52 million tons in next year. In approximate, this project is intended to spend $ 186 billion. Furthermore, the objective of the bulk of the market is to manage corrosion for an estimated cost of US $ 2.2 trillion or a yearly 3% of GDP (PAUL, 2010). Talgas work with Tata Steel has demonstrated that incorporation of graphite in coating offers high-performance mechanisms of preventing corrosions. Besides, their products are environmental friendly hence, imposes a strong drive in creating anti-corrosion innovation. The GDP analysis places Tata somewhere significant enough to affects Indias GDP. As a group company, Tata enterprises exert about GDP of 358, 793 hence, contributes firmly in the 16% of the states GPD held by top five businesses in India. This performance reflects how the satellite companies such as Tata Steel in conjunction with Talga, and Tata Teleservic es and Syntonic are performing. Therefore, the top economic picture is determined by the performance of the base. Bottom-up analysis In this section, the paper investigates Tata from a lower perspective by giving a macroeconomic picture (Byeon et al., 2016). This entails discussing its steel and telecommunication companies which have recently sign contracts to Talga and Syntonic respectively. Therefore, the economic analysis is based on the performance of these two partnerships which will hence, be used to reflect on the transformation of the overall firm (Siemann, Herrmann, and Galashan, 2016). Tatas mineral industry dominated by Tata Steel recorded financial delivery of 3.5 MT and 6.94MT for 2016 fiscal year and quarter respectively. The companys turnover was approximately Rs 117,152 and Rs 29,508 scores for the same year and quarter respectively. Recently, the firm has stated an equity dividend declaration of Rs 8 per share. Despite working in a relatively muted market, the mining company was able to achieve a recommendable strong growth quarter. Therefore, this reflects that when the market operations are smoo th, broad and effective, more revenue would be attracted to the company. Furthermore, the companys strong growth is portrayed through the extreme sale in automotive and unique product marketing which reached as high as 1.45 MT. About the global firms performance, these record contributed around 15% of the companys targeted transformation. Therefore, the mineral sector is significant; its activities should be made more efficient to boost Tatas transformation. The partnership with Talga will help in acquiring more shares and reach more markets. To sum up, a partnership between Tata Steel and Talga is a contributor to the Tatas revenue, GDP and hence, global transformation. From a bottom-up analysis, the industry contributes around 15% of Tatas revenue. Communication is one of the areas in which Tata group invest substantially. Recently, Tata Telecommunication Company has come in partnership with Synoptic to enhance communication in the world by offering communication services through mobile phones, mobile data, and related services. Based on history, NTT DoCoMo, a giant telecommunication company in Japan picked approximately 26% equity from Tata Telecommunication for around 130.7 billion, equivalent to 1.9 billion US dollars. The Tatas communication business have not been successful as such; it intended to sell 100% of their shares due to a loss of 1.3 billion US dollars. This loss can give a poor transformation picture for the entire company. However, by a partnership with Synoptic the company aims at stretching its market to enhance performance productivity. However, this implies that the firm is the telecommunication industry is not as productive as other businesses hence; Tata group should make little investments in this partic ular business. To sum up, this bottom-up analysis shows that Tata groups transformation depends on in the performance of lower companies such as steel and communication enterprises. On viewing the mining industry (steel), a sound is projected; it contributes around 15% of the groups revenue. Therefore, the firm should utilize its investment if this industry. However, the bottom-up analysis carried on the telecommunication services reveal that Tata benefits the least from the industry; hence, it should invest minimally in this very company. However, its partnership with Synoptic helps it to maximize its shares, access more markets which in turn can be of revenue benefit. Summary This report has taken a financial analysis of Tata Companies group in conjunction with Talga and Synoptic companies. The report identified Tata as a global enterprise comprising of more than 100. In recent partnership, the team has stretched links to Synoptic and Talga to enhance its productivity in telecommunication and mining respectively. By giving Top down analysis, the report observed that Tata as a group makes 99.7% of the globes GDP and recording annual revenue of-of US$ 62.5. The company has also established distinct interest rates; any loan applied online by salaried customers, attracts a current interest rate of 9.45%. Loans including or up to a Rs. 1.5 Crs is a subjected to interest rates of 9.50 to 9.55 %. Currently, Tata has $AUD value of $2850 AUD. In its business operations, several factors influence directional changes in value and its share price. Factors include legal systems, defined expectations of various stakeholders and politics. In response, the company has established appropriate strategies such as innovation and environmental strategies to ensure that the value affordability is maintained. Through the top-down analysis, the project has analyzed the Tata from a macroeconomic perspective, revealing that Tata is in a significant economic position; it exert about GDP of 358, 793 hence, contributes firmly in the 16% of the states GPD. The paper went further to analyze Tata from a microeconomic angle, bottom-up analysis. By so doing, satellite companies of the group i.e. Tata Steel and Tata Teleservices and their current partners Talga and Synoptic respectively. Relating with ASX, these partners were intended to give partial data for the benefit of the report. The bottom-up analysis showed that more investment should be m ade in the mining industry than on communication because the former contributes more revenue to the company than the latter. The report finalized by providing a recommendation of operation transformation benefit as stated bellow. Recommendations The performance of Tata is recommendable. However, it is supposed to double or triple if possible, or at worst remain consistent not unless the company realizes its mission. Therefore, the following are a financial recommendation that might hold the organizations performance. To begin with, the company should blend top-down, and bottom-up analysis approaches to boost the general performance of the firm. Using a top-down analysis to transform the overall programs and planning of the company (Byeon et al., 2015). Through top-down analysis, the company will identify areas that need to be adjusted. Such areas include reducing or increasing costs of productions depending on the trend in sales, improving revenue, or even combining business and financial ratios to ensure that the companys performance is a value adding activity (KAZMI and KAZMI, 2008). Even though this approach may appear time wastage, but the very fast effort that is taken to analyze the company through this method helps related bodies such as banks to assist in defining a realistic transformation plan for the firm. In this respect, banks, in particular, can come in and trace the base level program from factors that lie at the top hence, assist in by setting appropriate direction that the firm should take to boost its performance. The top-down analysis eases the creation of appropriate plans, effectively enough to improve intervention areas and transform initiatives. On the other hand, bottom-up analysis enables the firm to have a real check of the organization (Kleinnijenhuis et al., 2016). This approach unearths problems and related hindering factors that can be adjusted to enable the realization of the targeted transformation. It provides driving objectives and integrated approach that can be used to plan and implement comprehensive programs within the organization. Therefore, it is recommendable for Tata to utilize the two types of methods for determining the transformation of the firm; use of top-down analysis should be accompanied by bottom-up analysis to act as a supplement. The second recommendation is the elimination of inefficiencies to find the root of challenges that exists within the firm. Getting a solution to the substantial challenges such as poor planning at the base enables the company to determine key areas whose interventions can add value. About the top-down analysis technique, the Tata group will be able to classify the base of inefficiencies and take appropriate actions after that. Appropriate measures include forging links that are likely to miss between business operations and financial performance that determines the firms revenue and GDP. A Woman to Her Lover, Villegiature and When We Two Parted Essay Example For Students

A Woman to Her Lover, Villegiature and When We Two Parted Essay The poem Villegiature at first shows stereotypical images of love. Nesbit is talking about escaping from reality by trying to convince herself that she is in love with a man. She describes their relationship in a positive way, almost trying to convince herself as well as the reader. Although nearer the end of the poem she begins to admit to herself that she does not love this man and cannot make herself love him. She tries to convince herself that she is looking back on fond memories but the reality is that the time they had was boring. A Woman to Her Lover presents love in another way: it is about the way men see and treat women in the nineteenth century. It is unusual for a woman in this period of time to express her feelings about love and marriage in this way. In the time this poem was written, women were forced to get married to who their parents told them to get married to, they would not have any say in the matter and would not usually go against their parents wishes. Walsh describes three different types of marriages and explains why she would not want any of those kinds of marriages. Unlike the other two poems, When We Two Parted was written by a man and so shows a different view about love. This poem is unusual because men are not usually seen as being heartbroken and this poem shows a view of a broken hearted man. This poem is about two people who are having a secret affair, until the woman abandons the man, leaving him heartbroken. The connection between the three poems is that they all show strong women who know what they want. A Woman to Her Lover is split into four stanzas, but they are not of equal length. The best marriage that she describes has the longest stanza to show what she wants. The first three stanzas talk about three different kinds of marriages. She ends the first two paragraphs with I refuse you! , she is giving him an outright rejection and referring to him as a fool shows him that she is not interested in him if that is the type of marriage he wants. The effect of free verse in A Woman to Her Lover is to make is sound almost speech like. When We Two Parted and Villegiature are also split into four stanzas but the stanzas are of equal length. They both follow the same rhythm throughout the poem. They both use a rhyme scheme typical of love poetry but the poets present unusual love. The slow rhyme scheme is used because they are both recounting a memory from the past almost story like. A Woman to Her Lover builds up the first three paragraphs to the final forth when she is explaining how she wants love to be presented to her; our co-equal love live and work. to love and die with you, this phrase contrasts almost like wedding vows. The storyline develops from her saying what she doesnt want in a marriage, to what she does want which is equality and love. In the poem Villegiature the storyline develops the opposite way: Romeos way. And through the blossom climbed and kissed me. After complimenting him on his romantic ways, she changes her view of him, I did not love you Oh dear! you always bore me; she refers to Romeo who fits in with romantic tradition but shatters the image with her sarcasm and humour. She comes back to reality and admits to how she really feels, by using Oh dear! she comes across as sarcastic and shows she has no sympathy for the man. .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 , .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 .postImageUrl , .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 , .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85:hover , .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85:visited , .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85:active { border:0!important; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85:active , .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85 .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud097af3c6cfdc25cd984c731bfd46b85:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Anglo-Saxon Heroic Poetry EssayWhen We Two Parted also ends in a sad way leading to heartbreak, In secret we met In silence I grieve. The repetition of silence emphasises the fact that it was a secret relationship and so he cannot share his pain with anybody. The man is being rejected by the woman after having what seemed like a loving relationship. Walsh uses a lot of alliteration in A Woman to Her Lover: whose every deed and word and wish hand holding hand she uses this phrase to emphasise their togetherness. She uses many poetic techniques to show how happy they could be if he fulfilled her wishes of their marriage, stars to laugh with joy, this is a powerful metaphor that shows the effect on the world and also seemingly represents their love, marriage and happiness. Nesbit does not use many poetic techniques in Villegiature. However she does use a metaphor to represent a thing of the past: ghost is used to describe her lover in a memory where he would climb up to her window, although she refers to him with something that is usually associated with a negative connection. All three poems presented love in a different way. A Woman to Her Lover shows the most interesting way love is presented as it is the most honest. Walsh talks about how different people can view love and also how she would want love to be. Villegiature presents sort of fake love where there is no love for her to the man but Nesbit is trying to convince herself there is even though the only love there is the unreturned love from the man to the woman. When We Two Parted shows a sad way of how love that ends in heartbreak. It is also an honest poem as it shows love can grow and then fade away.

Researching and Citations in a College Essay

Researching and Citations in a College EssayResearching and citing a source in a college essay is vital. By carefully choosing the sources you should be able to produce an article that will be able to stand on its own as well as being used in college classes or even professional ones. Often the first sentence of the essay will state a citation without explaining what that citation is for. So in order to cite a source properly, there are some tips that you should know about.A good rule of thumb when it comes to referencing a source is to use the source in question as much as possible. If the source is a specific source then put it in quotations, for example, this book, this statement is a reference to this quote from this source. Doing this will give you the chance to make the article on your own by making the citation more effective. It's also important to keep in mind that each source has a certain format, type of writing and tone. This may mean learning a new type of writing that yo u aren't familiar with. Do your best to get familiar with the style of the source you are using, so that you can use the information that you have found with the proper tone in the proper way. Following this will help you to produce an effective article.Another thing to remember is to make sure that you always make the proper amount of citation in your essay. It's okay to use the information once or twice in the article, but do not ever include it more than that. Many students miss out on learning about a specific subject by using information that they don't fully understand or that isn't completely clear. Using the information when it's appropriate, can help you gain much more knowledge about the subject than if you were just looking at it to get an extra point. And don't just use a link in your text, make sure that you use a citation to back up that link.Don't forget to pay attention to when the information was written, especially if you are quoting or referencing a particular aut hor, although good information comes from many sources, you still need to make sure that you make a good number of citations. And don't just use the information, do your best to make it your own by introducing it properly. This will show your readers that you take your scholarship seriously and are truly passionate about the subject.Following these basic rules can make a huge difference in how a student writes a paper. With a little effort, you can turn a well-written essay into one that will hold its own in a class. After all, the first sentence should only be able to stand on its own and give you information that your reader needs to have.Writing an essay in general will also be much easier when you know how to properly reference a source. If you know what is going on in a particular essay, you'll know that you will have the right information to write about in your own essay. Many students make this mistake, for this reason it's important to know where to put your sources in order to make it your own.Researching and citing a source in a college essay can be easy if you know how to go about it. It takes a lot of time and effort to write a good essay, so make sure that you give yourself enough time to do it. That way you'll be able to create a decent essay that will stand on its own and be used in college as well as outside of it.
